Amazon has announced a $10 billion investment in North Carolina to expand its artificial intelligence infrastructure. This initiative aims to create 500 new high-skilled jobs and generate thousands of additional roles across the AWS data center supply chain.
Since 2010, Amazon has already invested $12 billion in the state, contributing $13.1 billion to North Carolina’s gross regional product. The company has offered 24,000 full-time and part-time positions across its facilities, along with 26,000 indirect employment opportunities in surrounding businesses and service industries.
In addition, Amazon plans to launch a range of technical training and educational programs in North Carolina, including data center technician development, fiber splicing workshops, and STEM awareness initiatives designed for students from kindergarten through secondary school.
Moreover, Amazon has established the Amazon Richmond County Community Fund, pledging $150,000 in grants—up to $10,000 each—to support STEM education, sustainability efforts, economic growth, workforce development, and overall community well-being.
Simultaneously, Amazon is investing in renewable energy projects across the state, including the construction of two solar and wind power facilities. Once fully operational, these plants are expected to generate enough carbon-free electricity to meet the annual energy needs of 76,316 American households.
