Developer releases Apple Watch jailbreak tool
Although Apple has done its best, the jailbreak on the Apple system continues. Today, developer Tihmstar has released a jailbreaker for developers on the Apple Watch Series 3. Although it doesn’t make much sense to users, there are some things worth noting.
The jailbreak applies to watchOS 4.1 and Apple Watch Series 3. compatible. Older Apple Watch and previous watchOS versions are also compatible, but some minor modifications to the code are required. For developers of Apple Watch and watchOS, the jailbreak was touted as “almost complete jailbreak.” It provides a root file read/write and many other features that developers like:
- Exploits kernel using v0rtex
- Gets tfp0 and stores it to hsp4
- Applies h3lix kernelpacthes
- Remounts / as rw
- Extracts bootstrap.tar
Need to be reminded that this jailbreak tool itself is not open to the public. Instead, its purpose is to give developers a deeper understanding of watchOS and understand its capabilities. Installing this software does not mean that users can magically access Cydia or anything similar to the device.
In the future, this access to watchOS will give users the ability to install custom modifications, such as user interface adjustments, custom dials, and more. Developer Tihmstar says there is still a lot to update. We may be far from the user-oriented updates. Interested user can go to the GitHub page for more information, but keep in mind that this tool is for developers, and regular users should be cautious.
