“Glic”: Google Chrome to Get Gemini Live Integration
Developers have discovered that Google appears to be planning the integration of the Gemini Live system into Chrome. This revelation comes from an X user known as Leopeva64, who delved into the Chromium Gerrit repository containing the browser’s source code. The new initiative has been named Glic (Gemini Live in Chrome).
Based on the uncovered code, a dedicated settings section will be created for Glic. The system will request permissions for microphone access and location data—rights typically required by virtual assistants to process voice commands and provide location-based recommendations.
The system tray button now opens the "Glic" pane (even when Chrome is closed), but it only appears for a few seconds:https://t.co/minmVJZvgj

Gemini Live, embedded directly into the browser, promises to revolutionize how we navigate the internet. No longer will users need to open additional tabs for searches—simply engaging with the assistant will suffice to receive explanations, analyze data, or obtain concise summaries of web pages. Glic goes beyond basic information retrieval; it deciphers complex concepts, processes vast datasets, and delivers clear summaries across a wide range of materials.
The browser will include a movable panel or sidebar designed to summarize on-screen content. A dedicated system tray icon will keep the assistant readily accessible, responding instantly whenever assistance is required. This intuitive design ensures seamless interaction with the AI: the panel can be repositioned on the screen, and the contextual interface will automatically adapt to ongoing tasks.
This technology is poised to be invaluable in countless scenarios: simplifying intricate recipes, aiding online shopping, drafting emails with refined phrasing, and interpreting legal documents by highlighting critical clauses, terms, and obligations.
While Microsoft has already integrated Bing Chat into its Edge browser, its audience remains significantly smaller compared to Chrome’s vast user base. Edge has demonstrated the feasibility of embedding AI into browsers without overburdening functionality. Meanwhile, Apple takes a more cautious approach—limiting Siri and other AI tools to its ecosystem without incorporating them into Safari.
Details about the Glic project remain sparse, but if Google successfully brings its vision to life, the daily routines of hundreds of millions of users will be transformed for the better.
