Mozilla President Mark Surman recently announced a series of leadership transitions within the organization, unveiling a newly restructured executive team poised to guide the company’s future growth. Additionally, it was confirmed that Mozilla co-founder and former CEO Mitchell Baker will be stepping down from her roles.
The newly formed Mozilla Leadership Council will be chaired by Mark Surman and will include Jane Silber, who leads Mozilla.ai; Laura Chambers, overseeing Mozilla Corporation; Mohamed Nanabhay, responsible for Mozilla Ventures; Nabiha Syed, heading Mozilla Foundation; and Ryan Sipes, managing MZLA Technologies and the Thunderbird project.
Nicole Wong, who previously held key positions at Google and Twitter and was appointed by former U.S. President Barack Obama as Deputy Chief Technology Officer, will assume the role of Chair of the Mozilla Foundation Board. Meanwhile, Kerry Cooper will take on the position of Chair of Mozilla Corporation, with Raffi Krikorian appointed as Chair of Mozilla.ai.
As for Mitchell Baker, her departure marks the conclusion of her tenure as Chair and board member of both Mozilla Foundation and Mozilla Corporation. Mark Surman has expressed his intention to appoint permanent CEOs for Mozilla Corporation and Mozilla.ai by the end of the year, implying that Laura Chambers and Jane Silber will only be serving in interim capacities.
Furthermore, Surman emphasized Mozilla’s commitment to investing in privacy-conscious advertising technologies through the Mozilla Foundation, as well as advancing open-source AI solutions. These initiatives aim not only to establish new revenue streams but also to accelerate the realization of a more equitable and accessible internet landscape.
