Microsoft Provides Windows Defender Firewall for Linux Subsystem
Not long ago, Microsoft released its own version of Linux as an Azure Sphere OS. In the latest development, the company decided to pass its Windows Defender firewall to the Linux subsystem (WSL). In other words, Windows Defender Firewall now supports WSL!
The company released this statement in the release notes for Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17650 for Skip Ahead.
Microsoft has released the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17650 (RS5), a version of Windows 10 that will be available later this year after the release of the spring edition of RS4. This version is for Windows Insiders who have chosen to skip options.
With the recent Fluent Design updates for Windows shells and core applications, Microsoft has applied the solution to the Windows Defender Security Center application in the new Windows 10. Windows Defender Firewall now also supports Linux Windows Subsystem (WSL) processes.
Users can add firewall rules for the WSL process, the whole process is similar to adding any regular Windows process rules. In addition, it allows users to take advantage of WSL’s firewall notifications. When the Linux tools try to allow access to the port from SSH or Web server, Defender’s firewall will grant you access.
Among other security-related changes, Build 17650 also introduced the Fluent Design element into Windows Defender. Now make interval and fill changes to your application as needed. The application’s title bar also changes color.
