Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is available on the Microsoft Store
At present, the Microsoft Store provides two versions of Ubuntu. Based on the original Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 18.04 has just been released. After the LTS version goes live, the old version will still be supported. With an installed package capacity of over 210MB, Ubuntu 18.10 provides access to Ubuntu terminals, including the latest command tools such as bash, ssh, git, and apt. If the user wants to install the system, the user needs to activate the Windows Subsystem for Linux before proceeding.
According to the latest blog post published on the MSDN blog, Tara Raj explains “The Ubuntu apps you see in the Store are published by Canonical. We partner with them to release the apps and test them on WSL. As per Canonical’s LTS schedule, both Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 are supported for 3 years. Keeping this overlap in support in mind, ‘Ubuntu’ is still 16.04 and ‘Ubuntu 18.04’ is as named. We will be Updating the Store descriptions and such shortly.”
