Windows 10 Lean Edition first exposure: Windows 10 Lean’s installer is 2 GB
Since the introduction of Windows 10 in 2015, there have been more and more types of SKUs. Among them, the Windows 10 desktop version as the bottom of the streamlined Windows 10 on the ARM, Windows 10 S, etc., but the latter has been cut off, but in the form of “S Mode” as a function embedded in the Win10 desktop system.
According to the mspoweruser report, Twitter user Lucas broke the news. He found it called “Windows 10 Lean” packaged in the Build 17650 (RedStone 5) installer.
Welcome to Windows 10 Lean/CloudE/S (once again?)
This new edition started shipping with this week's Skip Ahead build (17650)
It seems to be heavily cut down, an x64 clean install is roughly 2 GB smaller than Pro
Its edition ID is 0xB7 which was missing from SDK headers pic.twitter.com/2Sn3SVXeZB— Albacore ☁️ (@thebookisclosed) April 20, 2018
Windows 10 Lean’s installer is indeed exquisite, 2GB smaller than Windows 10 Pro. After further excavation, it was found that the main space for reduction was to delete the own-shipping wallpaper, CD/DVD drive, and even the program of the registry editor.
Of course, the developer who first experienced the program reloads the registry editor program and still finds that it is still working properly. There are no exceptions such as flashback or crash.
Other experience details include that the “S mode” is turned on by default after installation, and the system calls itself “Windows 10 CloudE.” Edge does not have a download manager for a while. Traditional Office programs cannot be installed and errors will be reported.
It is unclear what kind of drug Microsoft sells in the gourd. I think this is like a version of Win10 SKU specially prepared for products such as ultrabooks and minicomputers. It may be cheaper to authorize the license fee.
