Debian GNU/Linux 8 Jessie has reached End of Security Support

On June 17, 2018, the security support for the Debian GNU/Linux 8 “Jessie” series of operating systems has officially ended, meaning that it has reached the end of its life. The first version of the series can be traced back to April 25th three years ago, but on Debian GNU/Linux 9 “Stretch” released on June 17, 2017, it still looks old as an “oldstable”.

The long-term support for the Debian GNU/Linux 7 “Wheezy” series had been terminated on May 31, 2018. Beginning on June 17, 2018, Debian GNU/Linux 8 “Jessie” will no longer receive routine security updates.

Support for this series of OS will be handed over to the Debian LTS team from now on, but only a limited number of packages and schema updates (such as i386, amd64, armel, and armhf) will be provided.

By June 30, 2020, long-term support for Debian GNU / Linux 8 “Jessie” will officially end, and the team will take over the LTS work of Debian GNU/Linux 9 “Stretch” until June 2022.
