Starting February 28, local time, GitHub has experienced two intermittent inaccessible, but its emphasis on developer data is still safe. Ten minutes after the attack, GitHub asked CDN service provider Akamai for assistance and the traffic to GitHub was taken over by the latter.
The company that specializes in mitigating DDoS attacks takes over all of GitHub’s traffic. Its servers can handle much larger traffic than regular sites and can filter unwanted traffic to ease the load.
Eventually, the attack ended 8 minutes after Akamai’s intervention, and GitHub confirmed that the confidentiality or integrity of user data on the site was not compromised.
