Huawei is surveyed by the United Kingdom due to using outdated software may pose a network security risk
Reuters quoted sources as saying that due to the use of outdated software from a US company, Huawei is facing an investigation in the UK. Investigators are concerned that such software may pose a security risk.
The UK government regulatory committee responsible for analyzing Huawei equipment reported last month that the committee found technology and supply chain “defects” that could lead to new security risks in the UK telecommunications network.
According to sources, one of the reasons based on the VxWorks system used by Huawei, which is developed by Wind River, Calif. According to sources, the VxWorks version that Huawei is using will stop receiving security patches and updates from Wind River in 2020, but there will still be products containing these systems in use. This could lead to attacks on the UK’s telecommunications network.
The July report showed: “Third-party software, including security critical components, on various component boards, will come out of existing long-term support in 2020, even though the Huawei end of life date for the products containing this component is often longer.”
However, the sources said that there is no indication that Huawei is deliberate in such a situation, and the software itself will not pose a security risk. It is not clear which products of Huawei are affected and what measures Huawei is taking to solve the problem.
Concerns in the UK indicate that fears of trade wars and national security will make it harder for technology companies and governments to protect their products and communication networks.
A spokesman for Wind River said that it would not comment on Huawei’s situation, but Wind River usually helps customers upgrade to the latest software version. A Huawei spokesperson also declined to comment but said it would improve on the concerns of relevant UK departments.
