Kubuntu 18.04 LTS Release: Use Breeze KDE Plasma Theme by Default
With the release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver), some flavor versions have also been updated. After introducing Ubuntu Budgie and Xubuntu earlier, let’s introduce what changes have been brought about by Kubuntu. Kubuntu 18.04 LTS uses the KDE Plasma 5.12.4 LTS desktop environment by default and is equipped with KDE Applications 17.12.3 and KDE Frameworks 5.44.0 software suite, built-in Linux Kernel 4.15 kernel, support period of 3 years.
In the update, log wrote: “Plasma 5.12 LTS, is the latest version of the KDE desktop environment, the operation is more smooth under the premise of retaining the familiar configuration. In order to seamlessly create and manage encrypted folders in Plasma, we once again optimized Plasma Vault feature.”
The main new features of Kubuntu 18.04 LTS include the Breeze KDE Plasma theme which is black by default. The mouse double click can be set as the default open file, and the Baloon desktop search is integrated. The file indexer has been changed to only use the base index.
Like Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Kubuntu 18.04 LTS provides “minimum installation” in the graphical installer. LibreOffice office suites, KDE PIM applications, Cantata music players, MPDs, and various network and media applications may not be installed.
The minimum installation will install some basic applications and tools, including Mozilla Firefox browser, VLC media player and so on. Currently, VLC has replaced KDE’s Dragon Player as the default media player.
KDE general installations include LibreOffice 6.0, Firefox 59, KTorrent 5.1, KDEConnect 1.3.0, Falkon 3.0.0, Krita 4.0.1, Amarok 2.90, latte-dock 0.7.4 and Kstars 2.9.4.
