Linux Kernel 4.15 is end-of-life, user upgrade to Kernel 4.16 now
Greg Kroah-Hartman, a Linux kernel maintainer, and developer, said last night: “I’m announcing the release of the 4.15.18 kernel. All users of the 4.15 kernel series must upgrade. This is the last release of the 4.15.y kernel. It is now end-of-life. Please move to the 4.16.y kernel tree at this point in time.” Earlier this year, the Linux 4.15 kernel series also ushered in a busy repair due to the exposure of two serious CPU bugs, Meltdown” and Spectre. However, after the 18th maintenance update in the past 3 months, we still have to say goodbye to the 4.15 series kernel.
Greg Kroah-Hartman urged all those who use the 4.15 kernel branch kernel to upgrade their GNU/Linux distribution to the latest 4.16 series kernel as soon as possible.
It is reported that the Linux Kernel 4.15 series kernel contains fixes for the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities (64/32 bit hardware architecture support), and the latest Linux 4.16 series kernel branch is completely patched to support ARM AArch64 and IBM System z (s390) hardware.
