The March 2018 announcement released by Clement Lefebvre, head of the Linux Mint project, announced the latest developments in the Linux Mint 19 “Tara” series. The new version is based on Canonical’s upcoming Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) and is expected to be launched in June this year. It will feature the latest Cinnamon and Mate desktop environments, as well as the latest applications and GNU/Linux technologies.
One of the many new features introduced in the Cinnamon version of Linux Mint 19 “Tara” is the ability to adjust the maximum volume. In simple terms, it allows users to set more than 100% of the volume. Users can experience this new setting in Cinnamon’s Sound panel, allowing the maximum volume to increase by up to 150%.
Clement Lefebvre wrote in the announcement: “In the upcoming version of Cinnamon, you’ll be able to define the maximum sound output volume. In the past, the applet and the multimedia keys allowed you to set the sound volume between 0 and 100%, and you could open the sound settings to get access to amplification and set the volume all the way to 150%.”
