Microsoft Edge is 29% faster than Chrome?
Microsoft Edge browser homepage published a set of running points data, showing Edge is 29% faster than Chrome, nearly twice the power saving of Firefox.
In the speed comparison, the Edge team was able to run the Apple Jetstream 1.1 benchmark on the latest versions of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, respectively, on a PC running the Windows 10 April update (17134) ( Execution on 4GB, i5-3475S). The results show that Edge is 29% faster than Google Chrome and 19% faster than Firefox.
The endurance test was derived by the Edge team measuring the battery running time when playing HTML5 video full screen on the same Surface Book laptop. The test still used Windows 10 build 17134 and connected to the network via Wifi. The results show that Edge is nearly twice as long as Firefox and is about two hours longer than Chrome.
For this data, tekrevue said that the computer configuration and benchmarking tools used by Microsoft are too outdated. The benchmark for Jetsteam 1.1 was released in 2015 and will have different results if using the latest benchmarking tools.
Tekrevue conducted tests on more modern, higher-end machines and joined another browser, Opera. They used the Speedometer 2.0 benchmark in January 2018 and found that on a high-end configuration (64GB DDR4, i7-6950X) that also runs Windows 10 build 17134, Edge is about 35% slower than Chrome and Opera than Firefox about 22% slower.
On the mid-range (8GB DDR3, i5-4250U) system, Edge is even worse, 40% slower than Chrome and Opera, and 22% off Firefox.
