Microsoft: end-to-end encrypted for Skype conversations is available for testing
Microsoft released on January 11 that it is testing Skype’s private end-to-end private conversations on Windows, iOS, Android, Linux and Mac platforms. Upcoming encrypted communications will be suitable for the transmission of audio calls, text messages, images, audio and video files.
Before using Skype 256-bit AES encryption, but more secure end-to-end encryption. It means not only that the communication channel is not intercepted, but also that messages stored on the server are not read by anyone other than the communication.
Microsoft rivals now including iMessage, WhatsApp and Signal already offer built-in end-to-end encryption.
Skype end-to-end encryption will the industry standard Signal Protocol from Open Whisper Systems. During the test, users can only use the latest preview version of personal conversations with other Skype insiders, the interaction will be limited to one-on-one conversation.
Microsoft said it plans to invite more users to private conversational tests to further improve the experience and eventually bring it to the Skype client on the popular Windows platform.
