Microsoft says our most popular server product runs on Linux
In the Build 2018 conference, Microsoft Azure Data General Manager JG “John” Chirapurath interview expressed, the company’s most successful product is the server running on Linux, SQL Server. In the past few years, Microsoft embraced open source and publicly expressed “love” to Linux.
“It is the most successful server product we’ve ever released, in terms of downloads. Our typical download volumes are in the hundreds of thousands. We’re looking at seven million downloads.”
Microsoft announced in 2016 that its heavyweight server database software, SQL Server, will support Linux, and the 2017 release of SQL Server 2017 is the first time in SQL Server history to simultaneously release Windows and Linux editions.
Chirapurath claims that SQL Server running on Linux is the most successful server product released by the company so far in downloads, with typical downloads of hundreds of thousands of times.
