openSUSE Leap 15 release: Linux kernel 4.12
openSUSE Leap is a completely new way for openSUSE to create a regularly released Linux distribution. Leap uses the source code of SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) to make Leap unparalleled instability with other Linux distributions and combines it with community development to deliver the best Linux experience for users, developers, and system administrators. The contributions that contributors and businesses make to Leap make it a bridge between SLE, which offers mature packages, and Tumbleweed, which provides the latest packages.
The openSUSE project team today released openSUSE Leap 15, which is based on the upcoming SUSE Enterprise Linux 15 series and includes updated components and technologies designed specifically for heavy users.SUSE Linux Enterprise Edition is referred to as SLE, and OpenSuSE Leap 15 includes a complete Enterprise Edition feature that meets the needs of IT professionals and has the ability to migrate an openSUSE Leap 15 installation to SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 later this year.
This provides system integrators and administrators with an enterprise-class operating system certification and long-term support for large-scale deployments. Douglas DeMaio, an openSUSE team member, said:
“Today’s major release of openSUSE Leap 15 is offering professional users, entrepreneurs and ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) a new, fresh and hardened code base for their workloads that supports modern hardware, based on a stable, community- and enterprise-based open-source GNU/Linux distribution – but developed with a modern, more secure, better tested and much more open open-source build system unique to SUSE and openSUSE.”
There are many highlights of openSUSE Leap 15: the installer provides a brand new partitioning tool, integrated Kopano open source groupware application suite, and Firewall as the default firewall management tool.
