Over 2.9 million Norwegian citizens data leaks after Norwegian health authority hacked
An attack on the Health Department information system in southern and eastern Norway may reveal about 2.9 million Norwegian citizens’ personal information and health records. Officials say attackers or foreign government-funded sources speculate on leaks mainly include Norwegian citizen health records, most likely including government and secret police employees, military and intelligence agents, politicians and other members of the public.

Authorities announced the data breach on Monday. HelseCERT, the national information security center in Norway’s healthcare department, first noticed what went wrong with some unwanted events and traffic in the test results, which were subsequently reported to the affected participants. HelseCERT informs hospital partner HF, which is responsible for all ICT operations at Helse Sør-Øst RHF
Cathrine M. Lofthus, chief executive of health authorities in southern and eastern Norway, said measures have been taken to limit the damage caused by data breaches without affecting patient care or patient safety.
“The event is handled according to established emergency preparedness routines and in collaboration with HelseCERT (Norwegian Helsenett SF) and NorCERT (National Security Authority) as well as other expertise. A number of measures have been implemented to remove the threat and further measures will be implemented in the future,”
“Due to pending investigations, there is not much information available about the breach itself. Still, it is said to involve a serious foreign actor, with speculations pointing to a state actor,”
