PYPL PopularitY of Programming Language: May 2018 Python beats Java for the first time

In May this year, there were interesting changes in the two popular foreign language programming language reference indicators. In TIOBE May programming language list in, Scala paid off in one fell swoop into the TOP 20. In May the index list PYPL programming language released, Python for the first time beyond the Java occupy the top position.

The PYPL PopularitY of Programming Language Index is created by analyzing how often language tutorials are searched on Google : the more a language tutorial is searched, the more popular the language is assumed to be. It is a leading indicator. The raw data comes from Google Trends.

The original PYPL index data is based on Google trends and evaluates the popularity of the language based on the frequency of programming language searches on Google. Python last month ranked second with 22.2% share. This month it beat 22.5% of Java with 22.8%. This is Python’s first win in the PYPL index.
