Support of Ubuntu 17.10 will be ended on July 19 2018

Ubuntu 17.10 EoL

Canonical recently announced that the Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) operating system would complete its life cycle on July 19, 2018. This version was released as early as October 19, 2017. Ubuntu 17.10 was named Artful Aardvark by Canonical and Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth. This is the first Ubuntu version with the Unity desktop environment released by the GNOME user interface for more than six years.

Ubuntu 17.10 also marks the end of the Ubuntu GNOME style, and it is also the first version to switch to the next generation Wayland display server instead of X.Org Server.

However, as a non-LTS version, Ubuntu 17.10 does not have an extended support period, and the life cycle is only about nine months. After July 19th, Canonical will no longer release security and software updates for Ubuntu 17.10 users.

If you are still using the Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) operating system on your personal computer or server, you should be ready to upgrade to the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) series as soon as possible.

Canonical has provided upgrade instructions to Ubuntu 17.10 users via the https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BionicUpgrades page.

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS supports security and software updates for up to five years until April 2023.
