Symfony as a Laravel Framework Synonym, but Which One is Better?

Ddos February 21, 2022 5 minutes read

In companies, a PHP framework is a most frequently used solution for web design and development. Currently, PHP frameworks such as Laravel and its framework synonym Symfony, Yii, CodeIgniter, CakePHP, and Swoole, among others, are available for download.

When deciding on which framework to use to construct your web project, you must weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each option in order to ensure proper development and, even more importantly, proper operation and scalability assurances for your project.

Symfony

Symfony is a collection of PHP components that also serves as a framework for developing online applications.b The phrase “philosophy and community, all working together in harmony” refers to both a philosophy and a community.

Examples of applications that use its components include Drupal, Joomla, Magento, Prestashop, Laravel and Yii; CiviCRM; Google API; Facebook API; Composer; and phpMyAdmin. There are many more applications that use its components, which are listed below. Due to the fact that Symfony is much more than just a PHP Framework, it includes many more PHP libraries as well as best practices for programmers, web standards, and PHP libraries such as PSR and Propel.

Symfony is a tool that we use in many projects and that is one of those cutting-edge, inventive digital technologies that is always evolving to keep up with the demands of a more globalized and competitive world.

Laravel

Free and open-source, Laravel is a PHP framework that enables for relatively basic scripting, which reduces the development time for simple PHP apps It takes use of pre-existing components from multiple frameworks in order to build a web application.

And, yes, you read that correctly: Symfony is used in 30% of Laravel’s code, but with important development features borrowed from frameworks such as Yii and CodeIgniter.

This is Symfony’s small baby, which picks up on the skills of its cousins Yii and CodeIgniter quite rapidly.

In order to achieve this goal of utilizing other well-known frameworks, not only does Laravel avoid the need to reinvent the wheel, but it also makes things simple.

Symfony vs. Laravel

Despite the fact that these two frameworks are frequently associated with one another, there are significant differences that make them diametrically opposed choices when selecting a PHP framework for web development.

This post will not delve into technical details on performance or library comparison, so please keep that in mind when reading it. If speed or having the most up-to-date libraries are important to you, I believe this is not the topic for you. I can promise you that the performance, speed, and availability of the most up-to-date libraries will be mostly dependent on your code rather than the framework. When developing, you must use caution in the application of Models and Controllers.

Because of Symfony’s emphasis on maintaining excellent practices like PSR, when you want to hire laravel developers working with Laravel, you should know that they will find it easier to get up and running sooner, but Laravel’s stricter requirements will slow them down.

Aside from that, if you are interested in producing powerful and scalable apps for your firm, I believe you should consider other factors when selecting a PHP framework, in addition to performance. Return on investment (ROI) is an important consideration when evaluating any investment. Just like you would with the purchase or investment of any other asset in your firm, you should do the same with this one.

Laravel has risen to become the most popular PHP framework in the year 2020 to this day. This framework is based mostly on methods and features, which makes it extremely basic, reduces development time, and makes the entire framework easy to comprehend. For larger or more sophisticated projects that have a large number of functions and are used by a large number of clients, Symfony is the preferred framework.

Conclusion

It is undeniable that each framework satisfies a set of requirements. Both provide extremely important development aids as well as being high-quality frameworks. Decisions about whether or not to utilize one framework over another are always made by the developer (or, in some cases, by their employer?)

Laravel appears to be an excellent choice for projects when you need to construct your application rapidly and you don’t want to spend a lot of money on development. The Laravel framework has a large number of ready-to-use implementations that will make your life much easier if you opt to download it.

However, if you are looking for a powerful and scalable framework, you should use Symfony, despite the fact that the learning curve is a little more difficult. Over time, I tell you that the time you put in will pay off, and you will recall these words two years from now when you have to modify a function in a controller that has an impact on the business logic of your firm and the work team is no longer the same.

When it comes to long-term complex projects that require quality and flexibility, Symfony is unquestionably the best choice, especially if your project contains an API.
