TIOBE April Ranking: Python Continues to Climb

TIOBE ranking

TIOBE has just released the April programming language leaderboard. Ruby won the TIOBE “Programming Language of the Year” in 2006 and reached its peak in 2008. However, it was later snatched off by the new language and sentiment declined. But now it seems that it is getting renewed attention. It was ranked ninth last month and this month saw a slight drop in tenth.

The drop in Objective-C is obvious. The reason is that Apple abandoned Objective-C a few years ago and replaced it with successor Swift.

Of the top 20, the most popular programming language was Java, followed by C, C++, Python, SQL, Javascript, and PHP.

In particular, SQL was re-added to the TIOBE rankings last month, this month ranked ninth.
