U.S. & British government blame the Russian military for the 2017 NotPetya ransomware

NotPetya ransomware

On Thursday 15 Feb 2018, in the claim, the U.S & British government blames the Russian military for the massive ransomware attack that erupted in 2017. Last June, the NotPetya ransomware software that broke out in Ukraine subsequently spread around the world, causing business interruptions at ports, factories, businesses and government offices. The cyber attack caused Maersk to lose as much as 300 million U.S. dollars.

On Thursday, President Trump issued a statement calling the ransomware “most destructive and costly cyber-attack in history,” noting billions of dollars in losses in Europe, the United States, and Asia.

Tariq Ahmad, Britain’s deputy foreign minister, said in a statement: “The Kremlin has positioned Russia in direct opposition to the West, yet it doesn’t have to be that way. We call upon Russia to be the responsible member of the international community it claims to be rather than secretly trying to undermine it.”
