Ubuntu 18.04.1 release, security fixes and improvements
After the release of the candidate version update in previous days, today Canonical officially launched the first maintenance release of the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) system, which will provide up to 5 years of security and software updates. According to the roadmap, Ubuntu 18.04 has five maintenance release updates, and the first maintenance update released today includes all software and security updates since the official release on April 26, 2018.
Unfortunately, Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS does not bring kernel updates or graphics stacks. Because Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) is still in development, the version is scheduled to go online on October 18, 2018. The current kernel and graphics stack is the same as Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
Ubuntu Server supports LVM, RAID, VLAN, Bonds, etc. in the first maintenance release update. The official flavour version, including Ubuntu Desktop, only accepts the update package. Adam Conrad said:
“As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updated installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.”
