Last weekend, Canonical released a new Linux kernel update for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) users, fixing the degradation problem that caused startup failure (regression) on some devices. On July 2nd, Canonical’s Linux kernel update for Ubuntu 18.04 fixed a total of six security vulnerabilities, but one of the fixes caused startup failures, and some AMD and Intel processors had this problem.
For this reason, in the kernel update released today, it fixed 64-bit host, OEM processor and startup failures of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and other cloud environment systems. According to Ubuntu Security Notice:
“USN-3695-2 fixed vulnerabilities in the Linux Hardware Enablement Kernel (HWE) kernel for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Unfortunately, the fix for CVE-2018-1108 introduced a regression where insufficient early entropy prevented services from starting, leading in some situations to a failure to boot, This update addresses the issue.”
