Shuttleworth wrote in the official blog: “With our castor Castor now out for all to enjoy, and the Twitterverse delighted with the new minimal desktop and smooth snap integration, it’s time to turn our attention to the road ahead to 20.04 LTS, and I’m delighted to say that we’ll kick off that journey with the Cosmic Cuttlefish, soon to be known as Ubuntu 18.10.”
Currently, Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) has entered the development stage, and one of the most important new features is the new-generation Ubiquity graphics installer, which introduces minimal installation, resets installation steps, and optimizes other functions.
In the Ubuntu-level mail log, Shuttleworth introduced some of the components used by Ubiquity, including Curtin for disk partitioning and installation, and MAAS for network and storage configurations.
For Ubiquity NG, Ubuntu development team will add a lot of new technologies for it, including the use of HTML5 to replace the old HTML code, the Electron HTML5 application framework and the Snaps installation package format.
