Xubuntu 18.04 LTS Release: Latest Xfce Desktop Environment & New MATE Application
Following the official release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver), Xubuntu 18.04 LTS was officially released today, in addition to the previously reported Ubuntu Budgie flavor version. Compared to the previous two generations, Xubuntu 18.04 LTS has been optimized and adjusted in many ways.
Xubuntu 18.04 LTS is equipped with the latest Xfce 4.12 desktop environment, and various GNOME applications have been replaced with MATE applications, including Evince with Atril, File Roller with Engrampa, and GNOME Calculator with MATE Calculator.
In addition, the PulseAudio Bluetooth module is also embedded in this version. Users will support Bluetooth audio devices after installation, and Blueman 2.0.5 also provides game controllers and modules by default. In addition, the new version also includes the numlockx package by default, providing a numeric keypad area.
In the user interface, it is worth noting that Xubuntu’s login screen has enabled LightDM GTK+ Greeter by default to better support multi-monitor configuration, accessibility, and auto-login improvements, and to support the accompanying configuration tool to better detect a recent GTK+ theme.
Xubuntu 18.04 LTS also upgraded Greybird GTK+ theme, enabled new dark mode, better supported HiDPI, better compatible with GTK+ 2/GTK+ 3 applications, and supported GTK+ 3 style for Google Chrome and Chromium web applications. However, the GTK theme configuration tool has been removed and it is not possible to adjust the color in the theme.
