3 Basic Tips for Game Development

Do Son October 28, 2020 3 minutes read
Game Development

Game development might seem simple from an overview level, but once you break it down it can be a very daunting task to perform. There are so many in’s and outs to the industry that it has turned a lot of game developers away from pursuing certain projects.

Luckily for you, I have included 5 basic game development tips that everyone should know before trying to develop a game. They are in no particular order, but all of them do carry a heavyweight.

Do Not Shoot for the Stars Right Away

Video game development has “levels” to beat just like a video game that you might be developing. You can’t beat level 10 before you beat level 2.

Relating to this analogy, video game development is very similar to that example. Before you can develop a huge and complex game, you should be able to develop much simpler games. How can you expect to develop the best game ever if you can’t even develop a simple game like Tetris?

Work on smaller projects to start, and after you have mastered those, then you can move up the ladder to a more complex game. After you rinse and repeat this process 3,4, or even 5 times, then you will have the confidence to tackle bigger projects and eventually create that masterpiece that you are dreaming of.

Just remember to start off small and then after you have a great skillset you can move on to the biggest games.

Critique Other Games

To really get your creative juices flowing, it would not hurt to play other games and try to find ways that you could improve it. It is also hard to complain that your job in this tip is to play a lot of video games!

Playing other games and pointing out improvements that could be made or blatant flaws of the developers will get you in the right state of mind to eventually create your own game. You can apply those mistakes to your project and make sure that you have fixed them for a better user experience.

Keep “Sharpening Your Sword”

Have you heard of the saying “sharpen your sword”?  Well, in this case sharpening your sword is continuing to expand your knowledge and getting better at your craft. The only way to get better is to learn.

A sword is like your basic knowledge, and the only way to sharpen the sword is to gain more knowledge so your sword is more powerful. The best game developers in the industry are keeping up to date by following other developers, studying, and looking out for new trends with game development. It really is the only way to keep up with the times and keep improving at game development.

If you study enough, then you will start to see the benefits as you move through your projects in game development. If you ever hit a roadblock, there are game developers that you can outsource to such as pinglestudio.com or other top players in the market!
