Benefits of using a password manager

Thermanator attack

We cannot emphasize how vital cyber-security is, not only in the business world but also at an individual level. Data breaches occur every day; therefore, it is essential to have measures in place to combat this risk, such as having a long and complicated password for all your online accounts. It would be best if you also changed them regularly so that you are still safe in case you slipped up at any point. A challenge presents itself in remembering all these passwords. However, there are free password managers like NordPass that can ensure you are safe without any stress on your memory. You have enough things to think about. Let us look at the benefits of having a password manager.

1. Prevent password-reuse attacks

Cybercriminals often break into websites and steal email addresses and passwords and try using them on other sites. They succeed most times because people have a habit of reusing passwords and usernames on multiple websites. Password managers enable you to use a different random complex password for every website. Furthermore, they also prevent you from reusing your old passwords to avoid being susceptible to cyber-attacks.

2. Fast access

With any free password manager, it easily auto-fills your username and password on the website once you save it. You will spend less time trying to type in all the complicated characters of your password. Furthermore, you can access the passwords on any of your devices as long as you download the necessary apps for your password manager. All you have to remember is the master password.

3. Secure password storage

With a password manager, you can easily record a recovery question. A good practice when it comes to recovery questions is not giving the correct answer, treat them as other passwords as well. Any malicious person who has access to sensitive information about you can crack them.

4. Easy to change and add passwords

If you need to change a password, then all you need to do is log in to your password manager and tell the software which password to replace. Furthermore, the system keeps track of any security breaches. If any of your passwords are compromised, it notifies you to change them. If you miss an announcement about a data breach or hacking event from the websites, your password manager has your back.

5. Managing Shared accounts

For a business, tracking different users and the accounts they have access to is a nightmare. A password manager however, allows you to efficiently manage and change the password of any user where necessary. Some free applications even have a feature of allowing one person to control the password and provide access to other users without having to share the actual password.
As with anything in the world, there are some cons like some do not support all devices and browsers, or it may not work with all websites.
Keeping cybercriminals away from your business and individual space is paramount today. Security holes begin from poor password practices to carelessly manage them. As much as you may opt for the free password managers, ensure that it is reputable.
