Chrome for Android to Blur Sensitive Data in Screen Captures
Google is set to enhance the security of its Chrome browser on Android by introducing a new feature designed to obscure sensitive information during screen recording, screen sharing, and similar activities. This feature will be particularly beneficial for those who use Chrome to handle confidential data, such as passwords and credit card information.
Currently, Chrome prohibits the capture of screen content in incognito mode, but this level of protection is absent when using regular tabs, potentially leading to the leakage of personal data during screen recording or sharing. To address this issue, Google is testing an experimental feature that automatically conceals sensitive data on the screen.
The feature is named “Redact sensitive content during screen sharing, screen recording, and similar actions.” It is designed to detect fields containing sensitive information, such as passwords or credit card numbers, and automatically obscure the entire content area on the screen. This innovation will be available only on devices running Android 15 and above.
Presently, the feature is in the testing phase and not yet fully operational, but it will soon be available for Chrome Canary. Additionally, a new option has been observed in Chrome for Android, allowing users to close all incognito mode tabs simultaneously. This feature also aims to enhance both security and the user experience of the browser.
It is anticipated that both features will be made available to a broader audience in a future update of Chrome for Android, though the exact release dates remain unknown.
