Devil-Linux 1.8.0 release: special Linux distribution
Devil-Linux is a special Linux distribution, it is used for firewall and router occasions. It can boots and runs completely from CD-ROM, DVD or USB flash drive, after booting it can load the system into RAM. Devil-Linux is capable of running on an older PC.
Devil-Linux does not provide a graphical interface, making it a very light-weight distribution. Nevertheless, it includes a wide range of services (e.g. DNS, Web, FTP, SMTP, …), tools (MySQL, Lynx, Wget, Samba, …) and security utilities (OpenVPN, Shorewall, …) ensuring a high level of flexibility.[citation needed] Saving the configuration to a USB flash drive or (later write protected) floppy disk, the settings can be restored at boot.
Devil-Linux 1.8.0 released. This version is a major fix for Devil-Linux. Most programs and libraries have been updated, unprotected programs and libraries have been removed. The main file system has switched to squashfs to further reduce the iso size. Major updates include:
- Build system – Python now compiles all available modules from src / python-modules;
- Added added and haproxy; added Google Authenticator for PAM; added Dovecot Pigeonhole;
- Mounting of bootcd.iso from another storage devices is not supported any more, use bootcd.squash;
- Added a new init script post_init.local to help with some initializations scripts that need to run after everything else is up;
- Replace Bacula with Bareos, manual migration is necessary;
- Removed Linux-HA and moved to Corosync 2.x with Pacemaker
- …
