Dutch intelligence claims that Russian hackers are involved in the U.S. presidential election
According to ibtimes, on January 26 news, Dutch intelligence service AIVD claims to have mastered evidence of Russian involvement in the US presidential election. And provided important information to the FBI. AIVD revealed that a Russian hacker group called Cozy Bear could be the main sponsor of the cyber attack during the 2016 US presidential election. AIVD invaded the surveillance cameras at Cozy Bear’s headquarters and investigated that Russia had sent thousands of U.S. Democrats e-mails before the 2016 US presidential election.
It is reported that AIVD has been monitoring the Cozy Bear organization since 2014 and found its headquarters is located in a university building near Red Square in Moscow. AIVD captured the images of specific people entering and leaving the Cozy Bear facility through surveillance cameras that successfully invaded the building. The AIVD then compared these photos to known Russian spies to determine the potential components of the hacking organization. Based on the photo information obtained, AIVD concludes that the Cozy Bear organization is headed by SVR, the Russian external intelligence agency.
Although it is unclear what specific AIVD information is collected, the only certainty is that it believes Cozy Bear is closely linked with the U.S. government attacks. After a year and a half of the secret investigation, AIVD has been banned from visiting the network of Cozy Bear organizations, researchers believe may be due to Russia intervened, cut off the AIVD access channel.
