Facebook acquired Confirm.io, an authentication technology company
Confirmed by foreign media TechCrunch, Facebook has confirmed the acquisition of Confirm.io startup. The latter provides APIs that allow other companies to quickly identify whether a government-issued identification such as a driver’s license is real. After the acquisition, the company’s Boston office will be closed and teams and technologies will be added to Facebook.
Confirm.io has successfully financed at least $4 million in three years of operation. In the seed round of 2015, information was extracted from an ID card using superb forensic science and personal identity was confirmed using mobile biosensors and facial recognition.
Customers can integrate this identification technology into their existing services, such as the delivery service Doordash uses Confirm.io to identify the delivery crew and Notarize uses this technology to identify the customer who is viewing the document.
