Facebook acknowledged that it allowed 61 companies to access user data even after announcing restrictions on access to such data in 2015. The Wall Street Journal article stated that on Friday, local time, Facebook submitted 747 pages of documents to the US Congress. Facebook acknowledged in the report that it “one-time” to companies such as AOL, Nike, UPS, and dating applications Hinge for six months, giving them time to adapt to company policy changes in user data.

According to Facebook, also, at least five other companies may have access to limited user data because Facebook granted them access to data in a trial. Facebook announced in 2015 that it had banned developers from accessing data from their users and their friends.

A few months ago, the political consultancy company Cambridge improperly used the personal information of 87 million Facebook users to be exposed by the media and caused an uproar in the community.

This incident led the public to urge parliament to pass legislation that would force Facebook to take responsibility for its data management activities. Facebook’s stock price, therefore, fell by nearly 20% in March, but it later rebounded. Facebook did not comment on this.
