Today, Facebook launched a new department in its help center that focuses on dealing with user data breaches. The updated Help Center tool can check if your Facebook data is shared with the Cambridge Analytica tool. This tool details whether you or your friends have ever logged in to “This Is Your Digital Life,” a test application used by Cambridge Analytica to steal information and customize political information for Facebook users.
If you or someone is affected by this app, Facebook will detail the information you share with Cambridge Analytica, including public profiles, page likes, birthdays, current cities, and more.
In addition to this new tool, Facebook has been sharing a lot of blog articles about user security and privacy in recent weeks. Recently, CTO Mike Shroepfer outlined some changes to Facebook APIs that will limit the amount of data that applications collect from users. The company also promised to more prominently notify users on the news push link which applications are using their data.
In a recent report, 87 million people were affected by Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal, 70 million of whom were in the United States.
