Cloudflare offers free Athenian protection services for election sites
Cloudflare launched a new program called the Athenian Project to protect election sites from online attacks. The service is provided free of charge to US states and local governments, bringing enterprise-class security and reliability. It is reported that Cloudflare’s facilities will ensure that the site is not vulnerable to violent attacks to prevent access to ulterior motives, web pages, or misinformation. Besides, the service protects websites from crashes during peak hours or when encountering DDoS attacks.
To date, the Athenian Project has welcomed a handful of registered users of government websites, including the San Francisco Election Commission, Pickens County, South Carolina, the North Carolina Board of Education, and Hawaii/Rhode Island/Idaho.
The website must address the processing of voter data (including registration/verification information) or related to the election management/election results report.
Also, for IT managers working in the field, Cloudflare also released an interactive guide on how to strengthen the protection of the election website.
