GitHub’s New CEO Response: No plans to integrate ads
On June 7, Nat Friedman, the incoming CEO of GitHub, responded to Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) with some details about Microsoft’s acquisition of GitHub, and whether or not Atom will remain, whether GitHub will open source and whether Microsoft will go to GitHub. Responding to issues such as implanting ads that are of greatest concern to developers.
GitHub’s Atom text editor clearly overlaps with the target users of the Microsoft VS Code editor, so many developers are concerned about the future of Atom. Nat Friedman said that developers have their own preferences and that choosing which editor is entirely up to them. At Microsoft, there are people using Atom, VS Code, Sublime, and Vim. Even if the programming language used is changed, the work is changed and the computer is updated, but the developer usually does not change the editor. Therefore, we will continue to develop and support Atom and VS Code.
Nat Friedman added that VS Code and Atom have actually shared a lot of code. Microsoft and GitHub have cooperated on basic technologies for many years, and Microsoft has always been a major contributor to Electron. Atom-ide adopts the Language Server protocol developed by Microsoft for VS Code. This will allow high-level language support to be shared between VS Code and Atom. The language pack supported by Atom-ide is a language server shared with VS Code.
