Google changes the name of Android Wear to Wear OS

Wear OS

On Thursday, Google officially confirmed that the Android Wear system for wearable devices was renamed Wear OS and will release software updates and support mobile applications in the coming weeks. Talking about this change of name, Google said that the new name can more intuitively and more appropriately express the company’s vision for the future of the wearable market, and provide more support for new technologies for wearable devices, especially Android watches.

Dennis Tropper, product director of Google Wear OS, said: “In 2017, one out of three new Android Wear watch owners also used an iPhone. So as the watch industry gears up for another Baselworld next week, we’re announcing a new name that better reflects our technology, vision, and most important of all—the people who wear our watches. We’re now Wear OS by Google, a wearables operating system for everyone. ”

At the very beginning of Google’s design of Android Wear, the company wanted to create a wearable system that could suit everyone, whether you were an Apple fan using the iPhone or Mac or an avid Android fan. In order to achieve this great goal, Google is the world’s most influential and well-known watch manufacturer and consumer electronics brand.

There are more than 50 smartwatches that use Google’s Android Wear system. These watches come from different vendors and can not only track your fitness activity but also provide a more efficient lifestyle.
