Hackers Crack Nintendo Switch to run Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

Nintendo Switch

Someone just installed the newly released Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) operating system on the Nintendo Switch. A user in the GBAtemp gaming community released a photo of Canonical’s latest Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) operating system running on the Nintendo Switch, with the GNOME desktop and the new welcome screen as well as the new desktop layout.

But by default, there is no hardware acceleration, which means that when you open the window and switch between open applications, things get very slow. However, after the latest Mesa/LibDRM was built from a specific PPA, the performance of the GNOME desktop was significantly improved.

The user said that some things obviously work well. For example, the volume button can be used immediately, and the ambient light sensor also works, but it is annoying because it makes the screen too bright. Of course, touch input can also be used directly.

Bluetooth, on the other hand, does not work, so when running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, it will not be able to connect any peripherals to the Nintendo Switch but can connect to Nintendo Switch via SSH to install various game simulators such as Dolphin and RetroArch.

Running Linux on the Nintendo Switch is nothing new because after discovering an error in the Nvidia Tegra X1 chip, the failover hacking team showed up on the Debian GNU/Linux operating system running on the game console but running the latest Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (bionic beaver) is not easy.
