Intel CPU patch lead to computer restart in old chips
According to Reuters, Intel recently said that the recent release of chip defect patches may lead to those using the older Broadwell and Haswell processors, computer restart frequency higher than normal. Also, Intel may need to update the patch to fix the vulnerability.
Navin Shenoy, the general manager of the company’s data center group, said in a statement on Intel’s Web site that Intel has received a report on the issue and is working directly with its data center customers to “discuss” the issue.
Shenoy said in a statement: “We are working with these customers quickly to understand, diagnose and solve this restart problem.” “If this requires a revised firmware upgrade from Intel, we will release updates through the normal channels.”
Earlier Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Intel was asking some cloud computing customers to postpone the installation of patches to address emerging security vulnerabilities that affected almost all processors because of vulnerabilities in these patches.
According to The New York Times, Intel uncovered three issues in the “microcode” or firmware update released in the past week and cites a confidential document that the company shared with some customers.
The world’s largest chip maker confirmed last week that the company’s widely used microprocessor has researchers reporting security problems that could allow hackers to steal sensitive information from computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices.
