Mozilla Announces “Project Things” – An open IoT framework

Mozilla announced Project Things, an open framework for connecting IoT devices. Mozilla said IoT devices have become more popular over the past few years, but the vendors are vaulting themselves and there is no single standard that allows different devices to communicate with each other. Each vendor usually creates a custom private application that only works on its own branded products.

If the future of IoT devices will continue this situation, then the price will remain high, the market will always be fragmented, growth will slow down. Consumers should not be locked into specific products, specific brands or platforms. Mozilla believes that the future of the Internet of Things should be more like an open Web.

The future of the Internet of Things should be decentralized, and the power and control should be handed over to the users of the device. That’s why it launched Project Things, creating decentralized open standards frameworks and services that focus on security, privacy, and interoperability.
