Oracle donates 1.5 million lines of code to Apache NetBeans
Apache recently posted a blog post announcing that Oracle donated code to Apache NetBeans again in June this year after giving about 4 million lines of code last year. The granted zip file contains approximately 1.5 million lines of code and is used primarily to form NetBeans’ various modules for handling Enterprise Java, JavaScript, PHP, Groovy, and for mobile and web development.
Apache NetBeans is an open source software development integration environment for languages such as Java, JavaScript, C/C++, and PHP. NetBeans itself is also a development platform that can extend with extensions.
NetBeans was originally developed by Sun, and Oracle handed it over to the Apache Foundation in September 2016 to incubate and promised to complete the migration of NetBeans from Oracle to Apache through three separate code donations. This is the second code donation that it finished.
