Report: Python is on top 2 & the fastest growing language

Ddos April 23, 2018 2 minutes read
Python

April 2018 PYPL PopularitY of Programming Language and Hacker News Hiring Trends have been released. The Hacker News Hiring Trends recruitment data is collected by the Hacker News News Center. It not only pays attention to programming language trends but also focuses on the trend of the top skills required by the company, including frameworks and libraries.

PYPL generates data by analyzing the frequency of the Google Search Language Tutorial, that is, the higher the frequency of a language search on Google, the more popular this language is.

In the April data, both rankings showed that Python is the fastest growing language and ranks among the most popular. Kotlin has made a significant improvement in the PYPL rankings but has rarely appeared on the recruitment trends of Hacker News.

Hacker News Hiring Trends

According to the ranking of Hacker News recruitment trends, the company is becoming more and more interested in people with Python skills, followed by JavaScript and Golang. The most interesting thing is that Golang seems to have surpassed the popularity of Java at a certain time, but this trend is still unstable.

In addition, the company’s demand for JavaScript seems to have been consistently higher than Java.

PYPL PopularitY of Programming Language

PYPL focuses on programming language popularity. Although Java’s overall learning trend has declined slightly compared to last year’s index results, Java is still the most popular language. Python grew faster than JavaScript by 5.2%, making it the most popular language among developers.

The increase in popularity of Python has almost touched Java, and the gap between them is only 0.57%!

Unlike the Hacker News recruitment trend, in PYPL, Kotlin was one of the fastest-growing languages of the month, with six successes and a ranking of 16.

Comprehensive comparison

When comparing two ranking systems, we can clearly see that: Python is becoming very important. Regardless of recruitment requirements or Google search tutorials, Python is at the top of the language rankings.

Go and Kotlin has some differences in the two ranking systems. As shown above, Kotlin is nowhere to be seen in the ranking of Hacker News recruitment trends, and the PYPL programming language index shows that Kotlin is one of the fastest growing languages. Similarly, according to the ranking of the Hacker News hiring trends, the trend of Golang seems to be rising, and the index of the PYPL programming language shows that Golang is quite static.
