In a statement provided to Daring Fireball, Apple confirmed that the release of the new version of Siri—designed to enhance user comprehension and assist with in-app interactions—has been postponed.
While Apple has not disclosed a revised launch timeline, it has confirmed that the updated Siri will be delayed until 2026. Further details may be revealed during WWDC 2025 later this year.
Nevertheless, Apple emphasized that over the past six months, Siri has become more human-like, thanks to its integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which allows it to access a broader knowledge base. This enhancement enables faster responses to user interactions and a more seamless connection between related queries.
However, in order to refine Siri’s ability to understand user intent, assist with in-app operations, and facilitate cross-app functionalities, additional development time is required. As a result, Apple expects the updated Siri to be fully ready no sooner than 2026.
Apple initially unveiled its plans for the revamped Siri during WWDC 2024, as part of its “Apple Intelligence” initiative. However, persistent reports suggest that Apple has encountered significant design challenges, leading to multiple delays. Amidst intensifying competition in the digital assistant space—where companies like Google, Amazon, and OpenAI have already introduced next-generation AI-powered assistants based on large-scale natural language models—Apple’s progress in AI innovation appears to be lagging behind.
