Qualcomm recently acquired NXP for $44bn. The Dutch company is the maker of a German citizen passport. European government officials are worried that Broadcom might get the information after its successful acquisition of Qualcomm.
A person close to Broadcom said the company is ready for close cooperation with European authorities and hopes to join forces with European governments in the protection of EU citizens’ data and privacy.
In addition, some German politicians do not want Broadcom to successfully acquire Qualcomm and take over NXP’s plant in Hamburg, Germany, as Broadcom has long enjoyed aggressive cost-saving measures such as layoffs and cuts in research and development budgets.
