After ByteDance voluntarily ceased TikTok’s operations within the United States, it issued a statement within less than a day, announcing that, with the assistance of the Trump administration, a long-term solution had been successfully secured to allow TikTok to continue its services in the U.S.
Recently re-elected President Trump took to his social media platform, TRUTH Social, to declare his intention to issue an executive order extending the effective date of the TikTok ban. This measure aims to facilitate consensus-building to ensure the safety and security of the United States. Furthermore, Trump emphasized that he expects any future joint venture involving TikTok to have at least 50% of its equity held by U.S.-based companies, thereby guaranteeing a certain level of control over the new entity.
Trump’s announcement implies that TikTok services may soon resume operations within the United States. Additionally, companies like Oracle and Akamai, which previously assisted in managing TikTok’s U.S. operations, will not face legal repercussions or fines amounting to billions of dollars as a result.
