Located in Wellsville, New York, Jones Memorial Hospital (JMH), JMH’s computer system suffered a cyber attack this week, causing several of its online services to be forced offline, according to a notice posted on its website.
JMH’s IT team came from IT professionals at the University of Rochester, Dansville, N.Y.-based Noyes Health and Hornell, N.Y.-based St. James Mercy Hospital to restore their systems as soon as possible. In addition, JMH chose to work with its EMR provider, Meditech, to expedite the resolution of issues related to the attack.
A JMH spokesman said: “We expect all systems to recover in a matter of days and will undergo a comprehensive update on January 3, Wednesday.”
Hospital management stressed that the hospital will not reveal too much detail until the incident is thoroughly investigated. But what is certain is that no patient’s financial or medical information has been compromised. JMH is also assisting law enforcement and New York State health authorities in investigating the incident.
During this time, JMH has resumed it’s standard downtime procedures and regularly staffed and trained staff. This includes manually entering information into the patient’s medical record if the system is offline.
Prior to system recovery, patients are asked to bring their Medicare Card, full medication list, and any available medical records when they choose to visit JMH.
