Uses of JPEG format

JPEG stands for joint photographic experts group. This is the name of the group that created this standard format. This format is mainly used for digital image compression. This format reduces the quality of the image while making the file size smaller, but JPEG images are compatible with all devices and software.

To use this format, many websites provide conversion from other more prominent file size formats like PNG and GIF to JPEG to save space on phones. Sometimes websites did not allow us to upload images of bigger file sizes. To upload images with smaller file sizes, the user has to convert bigger files into smaller ones by using the JPEG format.

Many English websites allow users to convert their images into JPEG formats in their CV, application form, or other social network sites. Most social networking and educational websites try to avoid lagging in websites by not allowing bigger files on their sites.

Advantages of JPEG format

JPEG format is quite popular on the internet as this format compromises on size and quality of images to make it more preferable for slow internet. JPEGS are generally easy and quick to upload and download due to their smaller size.

JPEG format is also very used entirely for digital cameras. This format can take good-quality pictures without taking much space on the memory card as it will automatically compress the image’s size to free up more space.

JPEG format is typically used for photos, emails, graphics, and banner ads. Because even though it decreases the file size of the image, it increases pixels of an image that make it look sharper after compression.

When to use JPEG format?

JPEG format is ideal for online photos and artworks as it offers flexible editing in which users can select the compression percentage with little effect on quality. That is why it is ideal for the web, as JPEG images can be downloaded quickly even with a weaker internet connection.

JPEG format is perfect for printing as compression of files enhances the pixels of images, due to which a user can get high-resolution files with less compression. That is why it is used for editing and then printing.

JPEG images give users ease of data usage because they can be reduced to significantly smaller file sizes that make them great to send via email or any other digital means. Users can send a quick preview image to a client in no time.

Conclusion

Even though JPEG format is a widely used format, especially on the internet, its function has some limitations. One of the most significant drawbacks is the lack of transparency, as the JPEG format needs a solid color background. To get transparency in web graphics, PNG and GIF are the best options.

JPEG images are not very editable as you need layered images for this process. But JPEG is a flat image format, and all the edits are done and saved into one layer that cannot be undone afterward.
