Microsoft has officially released the out-of-band Windows 11 KB5129195 update for versions 24H2 and 25H2. This release addresses system instability introduced by the recent September patch. Furthermore, it delivers crucial privilege elevation protections to keep operating systems secure.
Critical Fixes and Security Improvements
The latest patch targets severe functionality breakdowns across enterprise environments. Most notably, the software update resolves major Remote Desktop Services (RDS) failures. Microsoft noted that “RDS might become unstable, causing RDP connection and sign-in failures or servers to become unresponsive during Remote Desktop configuration.” Additionally, this specific fix restores stability to the Microsoft Management Console and File Explorer.
Beyond stability fixes, the patch introduces vital security protections. It specifically addresses CVE-2026-62721, a severe Elevation of Privilege vulnerability. The official documentation confirms, “This update includes protections documented in CVE-2026-62721, which refers to a Windows User-Mode Power Service (UMPS) Elevation of Privilege vulnerability.” Attackers could previously exploit this flaw to gain deeper access into compromised systems.
Resolving Virtualization and Audio Bugs
Hyper-V administrators will also benefit greatly from this release. The update resolves persistent Linux folder sharing issues. Previously, folders shared using Plan9 failed to appear inside guest environments. Therefore, virtual machine workflows can now resume normally without frustrating interruptions.
Additionally, the patch fixes multichannel USB audio failures. However, some unresolved audio issues still persist. According to Microsoft, some “USB Audio Class 1.0 devices might fail to start or produce audio.” The company is currently investigating these remaining Code 10 errors.
