Revamped "Start" Menu Interface
If you have recently encountered instances where your printer inexplicably prints content on its own, do not be alarmed. Though this phenomenon may seem peculiar, it has been identified as a Windows 11 system bug. Microsoft has confirmed that certain versions of Windows 11 may automatically trigger print jobs.
The primary versions affected are Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2, as well as Windows 10 22H2. However, Windows 11 24H2 remains unaffected. The issue impacts both USB-connected printers and those utilizing the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP).
As for the content being printed, it often consists of random text or data, such as lines including “POST /ipp/print HTTP/1.12”. However, the specifics of the output may vary across different printer models.
Microsoft has explained that this anomaly typically occurs when a printer is powered on, or when it is disconnected and then reconnected to a Windows 11 system. Error reports indicate that the issue arises when the print spooler service transmits IPP protocol messages to the printer, inadvertently initiating the print process.
To address this issue promptly, Microsoft has deployed its Known Issue Rollback (KIR) technology. Generally, these changes take 24 hours or longer to reach users. However, those affected can expedite the update by simply restarting their system, which forces the immediate application of the KIR update.
For enterprise-managed devices, IT administrators must manually download and import the Group Policy update. Microsoft has already prepared the necessary policies, and administrators only need to follow the provided guidelines for implementation. Further details can be found in Microsoft’s official support documentation.
